At a recent event, Kevin Systrom, Instagram co-founder, announced that the social network is making a change to the platform by adding video capability.
The platform’s 130 million users will now have the option to record videos and share them on their feeds with followers. Similar to other popular video apps such as Twitter's Vine, Instagram will allow 15 seconds of video as well as the ability to splice clips. Users can edit any clip that is less than 15 seconds, however, looped videos are not an option.
With 13 special video-only filters, users can create their own look seamlessly and view it in real time before publishing. The filters are right in line with Instagram’s traditional, vintage style, and offer the same color-saturated tones that make them so popular.
Through an image stabilization feature called Cinema, Instagram has made advancements in taking video. When tracking a moving object, Cinema reduces the bouncing and shaking of the camera to give a much smoother image throughout the video.
Video on Instagram will be available for iOS, Android and viewable on the web.
