Last week, we shared how several stores celebrated National Student Day and today we're passing along even more ideas! Use them as inspiration for next year's events!
Kirkwood Community College
"The Kirkwood Bookstore at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa participated in National Student Day 2013 by organizing a two-hour event over the lunch hour. During this time, students could come by and learn more about the volunteer opportunities in our community such as Habitat for Humanity, the Humane Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and other local organizations! Each organization they spoke with entered them into a drawing for prizes which were announced every five minutes. Earlier in the year our Facebook page posted a poll for our fans to vote for which organization they wanted our staff to volunteer for as a kick-off for the event. Habitat for Humanity was the winning choice so a week before National Student Day, the bookstore closed for one day and the staff helped paint a home for Habitat. The event was a huge hit amongst our students and we can't wait for National Student Day 2014!" -Kelsey Schwager, The Kirkwood Bookstore
Mountain Empire Community College
"We held our event from 10-2 p.m. offering games, prizes, live music and refreshments. We also had local volunteer organizations set up for students to check out and sign up as volunteers. The event was a big hit with our students who enjoyed our "Minute to Win it Games" as well as our "Spin to Win" prizes; with the most popular prize being our plush mascot Fynneus Fox. Thanks to NACS for promoting such an event, as we built a lot of goodwill with the students, helped connect students to local volunteer opportunities, and basically had a fun day." -Dora Hill, MECC Bookstore
California State University, Chico
"The Chico State Wildcat Store held many fun events for National Student Day. Our overall theme was a Hula Party. We had a photo booth with fun props in addition to the one and only Willy the Wildcat. We also had soda donated from Pepsi for all students who came through our doors as well as a 15% off coupon valid only on National Student Day. Our final piece of excitement was our raffle. We gave away Windows 8 Pro Disks, gift cards to on campus dining and coffee shops and a basket full of Chico State gear. Our grand prize was an iPod Nano, the winner of the iPod Nano competed in a Hula Dancing Contest to win their prize. Overall, National Student Day at the Chico State Wildcat Store was a success and we received positive feedback from students and staff." -Rob Meyers, Chico State Wildcat Store
