Spark Student Attention with All-New Rush Marketing Materials

Posted by Stephanie Kubas on 12/1/11 4:51 PM

With technology at their fingertips and their nose to their phone, it can be challenging to get students to look up and pay attention to your marketing messages. That’s why, this month, we created an all-new marketing toolkit with Generation Y in mind.

Using popular internet memes, or a concept that’s gone viral online, these resources appeal to your students’ sense of humor by advertising to them in the language and trends that are popular today. Use these series of posters during rush to show your customers all that your store has to offer over online retailers!

See one you like? Just click the image to download it and print! We recommend printing the posters at 11x17" and the bookmark at 1.5x5."

LOL Cat Series:

A lolcat is an image combining an unusual photo of a cat with grammatically incorrect text intended for humor. There are several websites created solely for showcasing new lolcats and the images are often shared through social networks, such as Facebook. Students find them hilarious, and let’s face it, we do, too! So, in this series of posters, we created an amusing lolcat to illustrate each of the major benefits that college bookstores bring to students. Take a look:

Rickrolling is an internet meme involving the music video for the 1987 song “Never Gonna Give You Up,” by Rick Astley. The term refers to a bait and switch action in which a person provides a hyperlink for a seemingly relevant topic that actually leads another unsuspecting individual to Astley’s video. Anyone who is led to the video in this manner is said to have been “rickrolled.” Taking rickrolling to a whole new level, this poster will make your students see why they should 'never give up' on your store!

Infomercial Series

College students have come of age in the time of 'as seen on TV’ products. Playing off the typical format of these overdramatic yet entertaining messages, we created this series to display the hassles presented by ordering textbooks from online retailers and how they can easily be resolved by shopping at the bookstore – guaranteed!

Latest Craze Series

One of the most recent fads, especially among college students, is "Planking,” an activity consisting of lying face down in an unusual location. Taking the internet by storm, individuals take pictures of this pose and share them with friends online, competing to see who can discover the most original location in which to play. From this fad, other poses have since become popular, including “owling,” or perching from an unusual location. Playing off these current trends, we brought both planking and owling into the bookstore to create these hilarious poster options!

Why Buy? Series:

For those not quite ready to take the leap into internet meme marketing materials, we created some more traditional options, too! This poster and bookmark are designed to help you convey the benefits of buying at your store during rush. Try placing the bookmarks in your school's libraries during finals or hanging the posters around other buildings on campus to remind students to come back to the store at the start of next semester. The more ways you can communicate with them, the better!
