October 9 was the fourth annual National Student Day — did your store participate? Here's a look into what some other college stores cooked up, in the words of the bookstore staff members who helped make it happen:

Aaron Stanley, merchandise buyer:

1. Everything in the store was 25% off.

2. There was a 'spin the wheel' activity to win various prizes (ARC academic planner, ARC water bottle, packet of scantrons, candy, chips, $5 gift card, ARC pencil pouch, etc.) It cost nothing to spin the wheel!

3. Everyone who 'liked' us on Facebook was entered to win a fancy pair of headphones ($59.95 value)
4. 50¢ hot dogs and 50¢ cans of soda (we sold 756 hot dogs and had to make several trips to the store for more!) All proceeds from the hot dog sale go to the Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento.
5. Finally, we accepted donations of school supplies & hygiene products for the Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento. Every donation is an entry to win all Spring 2015 textbooks free for one winner. We'll be continuing to accept donations through November 21st and announcing the winner on Dec. 5th.

The turnout was fantastic, much much more than we expected! The energy was electric all day and students were all positive! We can't wait for next year!

Old Post Bookstore

Cathy Combs, Assistant Manager: Our promotion was a last minute decision after seeing your Facebook post on the afternoon of October 8th, so thanks for the reminder! We found inexpensive T-shirts and ordered specifically with the intention to give them away and boost social media following as well. Until Wednesday, we weren't sure what sort of event to plan, so having a reason behind the giveaway helped us get in gear to get it done!

We required a student ID, and a Facebook "Like" (or proof that they already liked us). We also asked that they post a pic of themselves with their new shirts. As you can see, it was a great success!

Audrey Herr, University Store Manager: We offered sales all day, including a special on Jerzees sweatpants and a free t-shirt with a $19.95 purchase. We sold 105 pairs of the sweatpants and gave away 195 t-shirts! A portion of sales (10%) from pink ribbon caps and t-shirts (purchased all through October) will be donated to Millersville University Health Services Breast Cancer Initiative.

We had a great turn out! We were fortunate that this event occurred on the Thursday before our Fall Break and many students were shopping prior to returning home.

Erin McGonigle, Marketing and Online Sales Coordinator: We had a one day Apple event, with 2 percent off current iPad Airs and 4 percent off current MacBook Pros and Airs. We had flash Apple hat giveaways and if anyone made any Apple purchase they were entered into a raffle for one of three Apple swag bags. We also had a Jerzees sale on select items, plus the students got a 20 percent off homecoming discount. We also rewarded our own student employees with a free homemade lunch.

Liam Callahan, Marketing Coordinator and Customer Service Clerk: Our event consisted of sales, live music, giveaways and raffles, as well as appearances by campus organizations and the Humane Society. Students who attended the event were able to enter into a raffle to win prizes which included an iPad Mini, store gift basket, apparel, snack baskets from our vendors, and coupons donated by area businesses — more than 200 students entered to win. We also had a prize wheel where students could spin to win a variety of prizes.

The FSA Campus Store offered BOGO sales on soda products and candy bars and offered 40 percent off apparel all day long.
