When Nick Offerman came to the University Book Store at the University of Wisconsin-Madison last month to promote his new book, his fans were excited, to say the least. “We told everyone they could pick up their tickets at 7:30 the morning of the reading, but we had people waiting long before that,” Marketing Supervisor Erin Lambert said. “The first row was filled up with hardcore fans from about 9 a.m. onward, even though the reading didn’t start till 12.”

This fall, the students at the University of Central Missouri will have an entirely new shopping experience. On August 10, the University Store’s second location will open in The Crossing, a $42 million mixed-use facility just one block away from the current store, just north of the football stadium.

It’s no secret that the end of the semester is a stressful time for students. To help them make it through successfully, the University of Dayton Bookstore has had a long-standing tradition of offering free massages to their customers during buyback. This year, the staff at the UD Bookstore took this a step further, transforming their buyback and rental return into the "Main Event.”

All you had to do was burn a handful of yearbooks and no one was the wiser about your Beanie Baby obsession or just how often you sported that awful trucker hat. These days, it seems like everything is fair game as all those old pictures are given new life on the Internet. Sharing awkward photos has become a popular trend over the last few years, inspiring blogs, books and car commercials (not to mention a multitude of both sincere and snarky recreations).

How many student workers do you employ in your store? At UC Davis Stores, they comprise a large part of the staff overall, with about 200 student workers to 40 full-time employees. Every department has students in supervisory or lead roles, and according to Director Jason Lorgan, they’re even the ones in charge on weekends.
You go out of your way to make sure that you give your customers a wide range of affordable merchandise — including providing a variety of ways to buy the course materials they need.
